Drinking a hot
drink on a hot day WILL cool you off.
In light of the heat wave, we decided to address this
ancient theory.
People have always talked about consuming warm beverages to cool down on a warm day. It would seem more logical to go grab an Iced Espresso Bella, opposed to a warm one- However, studies have actually been proving this theory to be true!
People have always talked about consuming warm beverages to cool down on a warm day. It would seem more logical to go grab an Iced Espresso Bella, opposed to a warm one- However, studies have actually been proving this theory to be true!
We decided to do some research, and these are some of our
findings:
“As you might imagine, consuming a hot drink does add heat to your body, but that heat actually increases the rate at which you sweat, which can help cool you off. The scientists who conducted the study believe that thermosensors lining the throat and mouth might be what triggers the sweating response.”
“Of course, the sweat has to evaporate in order for you to feel cooler, so if you are wearing heavy clothing or live in a very humid climate, drinking a hot beverage won't help much. But on a hot, dry day when you're wearing shorts and a t-shirt, hot coffee might actually cool you off more than a glass of ice-cold coffee.”

“Yes, a hot drink
can cool you down, but only in specific circumstances. “If you drink a hot
drink, it does result in a lower amount of heat stored inside your body,
provided the additional sweat that’s produced when you drink the hot drink can
evaporate,”
“What we found is that when you ingest a hot
drink, you actually have a disproportionate increase in the amount that you
sweat,” Jay says. “Yes, the hot drink is hotter than your body temperature, so
you are adding heat to the body, but the amount that you increase your sweating
by—if that can all evaporate—more than compensates for the the added heat to
the body from the fluid.”
“To be clear, the
tip only works in very specific circumstances: a hot, dry day, where you’re not
wearing so much clothing that your sweat is prevented from easily evaporating.
In other words, if you’re in a humid locale—for example, anywhere on the East
Coast—don’t try drinking hot water. But on a hot day in the desert, a cup of
hot tea might actually be the trick to help cool you down.”

So Myth or Fact?
We are going to go with Fact on this one!
We are going to go with Fact on this one!
It seems like scientists who have conducted the studies are saying/finding similar outcomes.
Regardless of the strategic circumstances- whether it be
your location or what you are wearing, a hot Espresso Bella might just do the
trick to keeping you cool on those scorching hot summer days.
